A minimum of Five Percent of all your time you invest into poker should be studying the game. Read forums, Blogs from pro players and books from well known authors. Poker is an evolving game, how can you make changes and adjustments if you never learn new ways to play.

Remember that a hand that you call a raise with should be better then a hand you would raise with, This is to avoid having a hand that is completely dominated by a hand slightly better.
The best way to budget your losses is to only bring the min amount of money possible. Very few people come back from a big loss. This is either because they are playing bad, playing against people who are better or just getting extremely unlucky. The problem is when you get into this state of mind others can easily see when you DO have a good hand and make all the correct folds. Players should bring either two buy ins or ¾ of what a average GOOD win for the game.
Don't be afraid to keep playing if you are winning, usually you are playing good poker and should play longer. If you are losing a lot sometimes you will help your hourly wage more by not playing. You may be on tilt and not realize it.
When playing live poker in medium limits make sure you have read all the “Tips” sections of the current poker magazines in the room. Read them right away.
