PokerRoom Review: They are one of the most popular sites online. The large number of players on the site creates action for all level of players. They are apart of the OnGame network of sites which shares live games, but have their own tournaments. PokerRoom has a lot of special features that build a strong poker community and make it more fun to play.

The action in the games has been known to get very tight, during off peak hours. This is mostly because of the large number of regulars they have. If this happens you can just change tables, because there are always good games here.

PokerRoom does a good job with game selection stats. They show average pot size, hands per hour and players per flop. However they don't have it all listed in the lobby you need to highlight the game to see the stats. This makes it a little harder to find the best game.

The lobby offers all players the chance to chat to each other about nothing or challenge them to a game. This means that observers and new players can ask questions and not need to enter a room to do it. They also have a forum where players can post messages, challenges or general poker knowledge.

PokerRoom allows players to create their own tournaments up to 30 days in advance. You get to select the type of games, limits, buy in, players per table, along with blind structures and prize payout's. If you have ever had a problem with tournaments and wish they were set up differently this is just for you.

People are also allowed to create teams. These teams are either friends or just people you talked to in the chat room and forum. Each team has a leader that has final control of the teams actions. The team then has a team wallet which is funded by each player along with team winnings. Each team plays other teams in tournaments and the prizes are pooled together. It is a fun way to even out your variance between big wins. Now there may be a few flaws to this, especially if you don't trust your team leader. If it is just a group of good friends of equal skill, it can make working together a lot more fun.

PokerRoom is one of the only sites that support real money play from some cell phones. There is no special accounts you just access the internet from your phone and start playing.

What we disliked about this site is that they have very little player input at the poker table. They don't support image uploads or icon selections. Each seat always has the same persons picture. This is a missed opportunity for gaining information about the people you are playing against.

We would recommend this site for any player. The software runs well and there is always a game you want to play. The standard sign up bonus is small mostly because they are already a well known site and don't need the extra publicity. They have lots of freeroll poker tournaments for the beginner along with a free poker school for new accounts. All the special features and no download options makes it a very versatile site, with options that will make every player happy.

Player Opinions and Reviews

MyAlibi's Review
I have played on PokerRoom for more than two years - and more seriously, for cash, around a year. I was first attracted to the site because I was not able to use various other site's software. I am, after all, a Mac man. PokerRoom had a Java based client that allowed me to play despite my compatibility issues.

I started out with a $10.00 deposit (the min. at the time) and quickly learned that there was not much I could do with a bankroll so small. This site is not geared to micro-level play. Like any short stack - I had trouble and was under pressure from the start.

My next deposit was $20.00 and this proved a more reasonable amount to work with. I played qualifiers, free-rolls and the odd sit-n-go while getting the feel for the site. The $20.00 lasted a week or two and I considered it good value for the amount of play and fun I had. The next $20.00 I deposited lasted me more than six months. It peaked at $200.00 and was perhaps the best $20.00 I have ever spent.

I was able to qualify for a $420.00 WSOP qualifier and play a wide variety of challenging and enjoyable games while gaining a great deal of experience. As with all online sites (and after seeing so many hands dealt) I had my share of bad beats - but PokerRoom made six months of online play really exciting and satisfying and for that I need to express my gratitude.

There always seems to be players for any kind of game you feel like playing - even at four in the morning and many are entertaining characters that offer up their crazy lives in the chat areas for all the world to follow. A poker soap, if you will, that unfolds each day in a way that would have made Aaron Spelling blush.

PokerRoom runs a variety of games, levels and promotions but have recently changed their Freeroll pay-outs and have ceased certain promotions, like the Royal Flush Bonus that once paid me twenty-five dollars at a twenty-five cent table. A second Royal I hit awhile ago, went unrewarded by the site, felt like I was almost short-changed.

The action at the site is mixed and I would advise newer players to avoid the various ring games at first. They are more unpredictable and the bad beats seem to be more frequent than while playing the tournaments. I have played .25-.25 Pot-Limit Hold 'Em ring games where the pots have reached as high as $150.00. Beginners should limit themselves to the tournaments where they can only loose their buy-ins.

I find the Java based software to be a little sticky, but to be fair - I am on a dial-up connection and have not up-graded my java in some time. I am still able to play, however, and in a high-speed world - it is nice to have a place to play that my older computer can still handle. The odd disconnect in the middle of a tournament has not dampened my experiences and may easily be my 'dial-up' and not the fault of PokerRoom. The 2000 person Freeroll is awfully slow to play on my system though. (A Mac PowerBook G3, approx. 6 years old.)

I have never had any reason to complain about PokerRoom. Once, in fact, they made up for a glitch by returning my money and giving me an extra $5.50 ticket to play. They seem to be concerned about keeping their players happy and I would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone.

In my experience PokerRoom is an established, quality, poker site that has evolved, often improving, over the years.

JoeDamnit's Review

My review for this site overall is a B+ and let me tell you why. I have played on numerous site, and casinos, and for me, flashy graphics, and annoying pros, do not make the site or the room. It's definatly the 3 p's. Playability, payability, and poker.

   Playability.
In the sense, that what it lacks in graphics it makes up in good hardware that does not often lock up or fail, runs smooth, and even has serveral options for how you want to personalize the look and feel of the program. Also being java compatible makes this a prize program for poker players on the go.

   Payability.
What I beleive pokerroom.com succeeds in is paying the players by check. Now, most people are unhappy with this decision, but I think it's ingenious. Pay-Pal is somewhat shady in my eyes along with those other internet "gimme your money and I will call you to let you know it's okay" providers, while pokerroom.com is the only site I've come accross sending you a check if you would like in 5-7 business days. Took me only a week.

   Poker.
IN other sites they have adjusted logarythyms to propel begining players into fortune early on to keep them on the site. I have played on other sites where a newbie played 2-4 against my big slick and caught runner runner 2's to beat my two pairs, a's and k's. Pokerroom.com has never dished out a variable beat that didn't seem logical. (In other words, runner runner might be blanks. Not just always seeming to help out either side)

Pokerroom.com is a world wide and little known community of people who all have 2 things in common, they like to play cards, cause let's face it, no one who plays poker hates to play poker. Secondly, they all want to make money, and chip by chip, pot by pot, it accumulates into some nice hard cash. After all I personally have flipped about 2 grand using this site.

I started with PR.com and I will continue using PR.com over any other Subject competitor.

   See ya on the tables.

Strandma's Review
As i first logged on to Pokerroom.com, it was my first online poker experience. I was very pleased to see how easy it was to navagate the website and their software. As i went threw the software i reliezed how much of a variety of of tournaments, freerolls, and play money they had. I was suprised to see that i could also deposit real money threw 5 or 6 secure different vendors.

I made my first Deposit and was ready to play, i just had to figure out were. I quickly found the Scheduled Regular Tournaments and and joined a small $2+.25 Tourney. I believe there was 400 people that had signed up as well, and a pot prize of 1000 dallars with top 40 people getting paid. To say the least i was excited for my first online poker tourney. Now i wont say that i got first place or even place into money, but i stayed in the tourney for over 1 hour and had a great time for $2.00.

Since i First logged into the Regular Scheduled tournaments, i havent looked back. I recently entered a $5+.50 Tournament and placed 1st place receiving $711.00. Pokerroom was very professional, and sent me a check. I was told it would be 4 to 5 business days before i would recieve it, but 2 days later i got it. Went to the bank and cashed it with out fear or problems.

Pokerroom.com is an outstanding place for beginners, novice, and extreme poker players. With there professional attitude and overweelming amount of free and small tournaments, i would say pokerrom.com has an advantage over anyother poker website and software with its easy to navagate and professonal attutide. I will be playing on pokerroom.com for a long time, and stand by it.

   Thanks for listening,
    Mike

Phil's Review
I am a college student and I have played my fair share of online poker. After playing on “Pokerroom” as well as “Party Poker” and “Pacific Poker” I like “Pokerroom” the most. I mostly played tournaments but I also played some ring games and casino games on these sites. “Pokerroom” was by far my favourite, and the only one I play on today. I play lower buy in tournaments, mainly 5$ to 50$ buy ins and .50/1$ ring games. “Pokerroom” by far outranks other poker sites.

The main reason it is my favourite site is because of the low house fees for tournaments. While other poker sites charged 1$ house fee for a 5$ sit and go, “Pokerroom” only charges $0.50. Also, the “Pokerroom” offers one of the best tournaments around. The "Guarenteed" prize pool tournaments have an excellent ratio between number of players and total prize pool. Lastly, they offer excellent customer support, including live chat, email and phone. I have used all three methods and have been completely satisfied.

The only downfall of this poker site is that may not have the highest player volume, it is second to “Party Poker”. Also, there are not many player at the highest of ring games stakes. Others have said that the players at “Pokerroom” are much harder to beat as well as “Party Poker”. I agree with this, the quality of poker I find to be much higher at “Pokerroom”, which may be good or bad depending on the player.

“Pokerroom” is one of the only sites that has lobby chat, not only chat at the tables. Also, they have the most types of tournaments, such as WSOP qualifiers and six figure freerolls. They also have a very generous points system, where the points are very easy to earn and can be used many different ways. For example, only 1$ in tournament fees gives 7 points, and you only need 10 points to exchange for a buy-in to a tournament.

The tournaments all have different lengths and number of people, and all different levels of opponents. Low level sit and goes are pretty wild, as well as any “lucky dollars” or “turbo” tournaments. I would say that “Pokerroom” would receive 8/10 for action, while “Party Poker” receives 9/10 only because “Party Poker” players have a tendency to make loose calls in low level rings and sit and goes.

The software is excellent and works on all speeds of internet. It has both a downloadable version and browser version, so it works on all operating systems. The aesthetics are much nicer then “Pacific Poker” and the tournaments and ring games are much more organized. I give “Pokerroom” 9/10 for the software.

Overall I rate “Pokerroom” 9/10 and strongly recommend it for any online players.

   Phil
